What is a diploma legalization for UAE?

Working or studying in the United Arab Emirates? It's often necessary to have your Dutch diploma legalized so it's officially recognized in the UAE. KES Legalization specializes in the legalization of diplomas for use abroad. We ensure that your documents are officially recognized in the UAE.

In order to use your diploma in the UAE (such as Dubai or Abu Dhabi), it must be legalized through an official process.

How does it work?
5-step plan for legalizing diplomas for use in the UAE
Offerte Legalisatie VAE

1. Document check & intake

Send your diploma to us or bring it to our office in The Hague. Request a free pre-check of your diploma below so that we can see in advance whether the document is recognized by the Ministry of Education.

2. DUO legalization & certified copy

We submit your diploma to DUO (Dienst Uitvoering Onderwijs) for formal legalization. DUO checks the authenticity, confirms the official recognition by the Ministry of Education, stamps the document, and, if necessary, makes a certified copy of your diploma.

3. Legalization at the Ministry + Embassy of the UAE in The Hague

We then take the document stamped by DUO to the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs for ministerial legalization. After ministerial processing, we submit it to the Embassy of the United Arab Emirates in The Hague for consular authentication.

4. Translation into English or Arabic with legalizations

If your diploma needs to be translated, we will arrange for a certified translation by a certified translator. The translation will also need to be legalized.

5. MOFA in UAE + Return Shipping

Once the UAE Embassy in The Hague has legalized the translated diploma and/or the original, the documents must be legalized by the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) for final ratification. We will then arrange for the fully legalized diplomas to be returned to you safely!

FAQ

1. Do I need a certified translation? Yes, if the diploma is not in English. Arabic is sometimes also required.

2. Do I have to go to an agency myself? No, we'll arrange everything for you – including the MOFA stamp in the UAE.

3. Is my document safe? Yes, everything is shipped registered and insured.

4. Do I need to have my diploma notarized for legalization? Yes, higher education diplomas often need to be notarized before they are submitted to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

5. What types of documents other than diplomas need to be legalized for international use? In addition to diplomas, various other documents often need to be legalized, such as: Commercial and export documents: certificates of origin (CVO), EUR.1 and EUR-MED certificates, invoices, packing lists, and health certificates are often required for international trade. Personal documents: marriage certificates, birth certificates, powers of attorney, and other personal legal documents often need to be legalized for purposes such as family reunification, residence permits, or citizenship. Legal documents: Documents from a notary or documents translated by a certified translator often need to be legalized by the relevant court or ministry.

6. What is the difference between an apostille and a full legalization procedure by the embassy? Apostille: If the country of destination is an “apostille country,” a single apostille stamp from a designated authority (often a court or the Ministry of Foreign Affairs) is sufficient to legalize the document. Full legalization by the embassy: If the country of destination is a “non-apostille country” (such as the United Arab Emirates or Saudi Arabia), a more extensive legalization process involving multiple steps is required.

7. Can I arrange the entire legalization process myself, or is it better to hire a service provider? Although it is technically possible to arrange the legalization process yourself, many people choose a service provider—such as KES Legalisatie—because of the convenience and expertise they offer. Advantages of hiring a service provider: Expertise: well-informed about all procedures and requirements of various ministries, consulates, and embassies, minimizing the risk of errors or rejections. Convenience: you don't have to leave your home; we take care of all the logistics, including submitting and collecting documents from various authorities. Efficiency: we have established processes and relationships that can speed up the legalization process, enabling us to offer faster turnaround times. Comprehensive service: We offer end-to-end solutions, including document verification, translations, notarization, and even the final MOFA stamp in the country of destination. No result, no cost: We operate a “no legalization, no cost” policy, which offers financial security.
